Chatanna Patterson Car Accident Obituary-Death: 51-Year-Old Identified as Victim in Fatal Atlanta Chase Crash
A high-speed police pursuit in Fulton County ended in tragedy Monday afternoon when 51-year-old Chatanna Ohiyesha Patterson was killed in a gas station crash after a fleeing driver lost control of his vehicle. The incident also left three other people seriously injured.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the pursuit began around 2:40 p.m. on Interstate 20 westbound when a trooper attempted to stop a Hyundai Elantra for allegedly speeding at about 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. Officials said the driver initially slowed down but then accelerated and fled the stop.
Investigators report that the driver, identified as 26-year-old Fre’shun Tyai White of Marietta, drove recklessly across multiple lanes of traffic, exited the interstate, and re-entered it in a dangerous manner that nearly caused several collisions.
Due to safety concerns, officers temporarily disengaged from the chase on the interstate. However, White continued driving erratically, later exiting at high speed onto the Hill Street ramp.
Authorities say the driver lost control of the vehicle, which crossed into a gas station parking lot and struck a parked car where Chatanna Patterson was standing beside her vehicle.
She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, along with a passenger in his vehicle and the driver of the parked car, were all seriously injured and transported to hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not yet been released.
The driver has been taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and related offenses.
Officials described the incident as a tragic reminder of the dangers of high-speed police pursuits and the devastating impact they can have on innocent bystanders.
