Chatanna Ohiyesha Patterson Car Accident – 51-Year-Old Fatally Struck During High-Speed Police Chase in Atlanta
A high-speed police pursuit on Interstate 20 in Atlanta ended in tragedy on Monday afternoon when 51-year-old Chatanna Ohiyesha Patterson was killed after being struck during a crash involving a fleeing driver. The incident has left her family devastated and the wider community shaken as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the incident began when a trooper attempted to stop a 26-year-old driver, Fre’shun Tyai White of Marietta, for allegedly speeding nearly 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. Investigators say the driver initially slowed down but then suddenly accelerated and fled the traffic stop.
Officials report that the pursuit quickly became dangerous as the Hyundai Elantra swerved through multiple lanes on Interstate 20 in Fulton County. The driver reportedly exited and re-entered the interstate during the chase, narrowly avoiding several collisions while troopers followed at a controlled distance.
The situation escalated further when the vehicle exited onto Hill Street at high speed and the driver lost control. The car then entered a gas station parking lot, where it struck a parked vehicle near where Chatanna Patterson was standing.
She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, along with a passenger in the fleeing vehicle and the driver of the parked car, were all seriously injured and transported to hospital for treatment. Officials have not yet released updates on their conditions.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as they work to reconstruct the full sequence of events that led to the crash.
